The Enemy Within
All Involved
Sometimes in music, the fans, bands and writers have to deal with conservative thoughts and stands from the part of many people in Metal. It’s obvious that dealing with new musical expressions can be a hard thing, but even if one doesn’t like a genre, it doesn’t mean that such genre isn’t good. And new expressions and genres aren’t here to erase what was already done, but to revigorated Metal for the new generations, then stop the ‘catechesis’ (maybe better call it ‘brainwashing’) of the fans and let them be what they are. And the work of the UK-based sextet ALL INVOLVED is a fine opportunity to learn to deal with new expressions, because they’re presented in a very good way on “The Enemy Within”.
Vasilis Papageorgakopoulos (the band’s bassist) produced (with the help of the band), recorded (with George Kostaras working on it as well, and the drums were recorded by Alan Miller), mixed and edited the songs, with mastering signed by Steve Lado. The abrasive appeal and aggressive insight don’t tear apart the understanding of what’s being played, but fits perfectly on what the band plays. And the artwork of Admir Tihic is truly what the band’s music expresses. Musically, a mix between many Modern Metal tendencies can be heard here, with Metalcore, Melodic Death Metal, Groove Metal, Groove Thrash Metal and others being mixed alike, and it’s filled with layers of emotions that will impress the hearers. It’s aggressive and nasty, but with many excellent melodic parts, with contrasts between clean and harsh vocals’ tunes, excellent instrumental lines and thunderous rhythms. It’s really very good and personal, especially because the keyboards has a charming part on such aspect.
Again: the band’s music is filled with many layers of emotions and contrasts, and it’wll be a great pleasure for the fans to hear and decipher what’s offered on “Euphoria” (the contrasts between melancholic touches with aggressive elements are very good, with very good guitars’ riffs and arrangements), “Fork in the Road” (again very good contrasts, and the charming keyboards supports the shifts between growls and clean tunes of the vocals), “Collide (Enemy Within)” (lovely pianos parts, indeed), and “Confronting Fire” (the weight and technique of bass guitar and drums improves the modern hooks on this one).
Even those who aren’t into Modern Metal tendencies should give this a chance and listen to “The Enemy Within”, because ALL INVOLVED has a very good musical work, indeed.
