From Bandcamp, “Their new album “Hosanna,” is a nihilistic odyssey through the darkest corridors of the human soul. This album is a testament to the unyielding darkness that permeates the band’s sonic landscape. With 12 tracks totaling 52 minutes, “Hosanna” is a relentless onslaught of old-school nihilistic black metal, crafted to evoke a sense of existential dread and despair. Each song, meticulously composed by the enigmatic mastermind V, delves deeper into the abyss, exploring themes of decay, desolation, and the futility of existence. The cover and booklet design by Temira De Temirin serve as a visual gateway to the album’s haunting melodies and venomous lyrics, drawing listeners into a realm of unbridled darkness.”
“Ceremony of Black” is the first song, and if it’s evident from the opening riff, this is going to be a display of aggression, darkness, and weight. The vocals are scratchy and raspy, and the music is thick and full. There is also an air of hopelessness to the music. “My Name is Death” does indeed have that ominous quality to it, but also some more tender moments, and the band knows how to temper the intensity with brief moments of melody, allowing the sharper elements to shine through. The next There are three more short instrumental interludes breaking up the album. “Black Dawn” is an exercise in rage, intensity, and hatred, but that existential dread that the band talked about in the bio are also quite strong within the music.
“Gloria in Saecula” rumbled out of the gate like a hellish thunderstorm, spewing rain and high winds throughout the lands. In the background of the grey skies, I picture a creature of evil looming over the storm and controlling the intensity with his hands. “Kres Istnienia” is horribly depressing, with heavy drum strikes that create a feeling of torture and pain. Hope hangs by a thread, and is soon to pass. The second interlude allows the listener to catch their breath a bit. “Impaled Flesh” is as horrid as the title suggests, with an aggressive bite, and you can feel the instrument of death plunging into your flesh. From the moment it enters, death is inevitable. “Holy Poison” has a weighted and dissonant drone, as well as a background full of supporting elements. Poison usually takes some time to work, but once it does, death comes swiftly.
“Black Manifest” is very dark song, and it reminds me of times that I have retreated into my head and black thoughts take over. It’s a difficult place to try to pull yourself out of. “Funeral Whore” closes the album, and the opening timpani strikes are as frightening as anything. From there, a steady wave of darkness takes over. The timpani returns with even more ominous tones, marking your sure death. It’s evident from both the names of the band members and the music that this is true Black Metal. But, the music is inventive as well as uncompromising. Aggressive and frightening, it’s a soundtrack to your inner destruction.
