Nighnacht - Limb Service

Even though the songs are short and to the point, they do not lack the qualities and traits that you not only expect, but also hope for in a band that is trying to bring Extreme Metal to your doorstep. In that respect “Limb Service” doesn’t disappoint for one second. NIGHNACHT knows exactly what they are doing.

Orchid Throne - Buried in Black

I have to say that I am very much enamoured with opening tune “Dreamworld”. It starts and ends with piano sounds, but in between you really get the sounds that I have mentioned about the musical direction. I have to say that the combination of mainly Gothic Metal with Melodic Death Metal works really well in this song.

Evildead - Annihilation Of Civilization (Reissue)

The music on “Annihilation Of Civilization” is quite good, the production is as it was expected to be for a band in this music genre, the cover is brilliant. The band was clearly a bunch of very talented musicians with a singer that was very definitely making the right kind of statements for the time this was first released. (Unfortunately a lot of the matters described are again or still valid and important in this day and age.)

Evildead - The Underworld (Reissue)

As their second album, you can hear that EVILDEAD had learned from their debut album, that, although quite good, could have sounded better. That has been remedied on “The Underworld”, as the sound is just that bit fuller, just that bit more rounded.

I know that a band wants to start with the one song that is a cut above the rest, that could easily be seen as the best song they have. Well, that is definitely the case with “Zerocane”. This is simply the best track that RAM-ZET has ever produced.

On “From The Fade” all comes together in a very good way. Whether the music is fast and furious, or slow and emotional, it all sounds exactly right. All the right notes are being hit, all the right noises are being offered, and the pristine production makes it all gel in just the right way.

Green Carnation - A Dark Poem, Part II - Sanguis

After “Leaves Of Yesteryear” in 2020 and their 2025 album “A Dark Poem, Part I – The Shores Of Melancholia” it is now time for them to give us “A Dark Poem, Part II - Sanguis”. This band from Kristiansand in Norway isn’t just a simple Progressive Rock/Metal band, nope, they don’t have a problem mixing those influences with a lot of Gothic under- and overtones.

Archspire – Too Fast To Die

This doesn’t border on or has any association with Grindcore or any subsidiary of that genre. ARCHSPIRE plays pure Technical Death Metal that just goes a lot faster than you are used to. The title is quite apt, because what I am hearing on “Too Fast To Die” has the right combination between being as Heavy and intense as possible, whilst simultaneously maintain a bit of Melodic undertones to make the whole experience just that bit easier to digest.

To me “Coronach” is an album that is exactly right for HELLRIPPER. The band needs to be able to vary more in their intensity and expand their musical horizon, in order to prevent the band being one of those who keeps repeating themselves.

The sound on “Advent of Chaos” is actually quite heavy. The production is not only as solid as granite; it has everything you wish for if you want the music to come out of your speakers in an impeccable way what you decide to turn the volume up time and time again. Well, I can tell you that AMONGRUINS have succeeded with flying colours in that respect.

DYECREST is categorised as Contemporary Heavy Metal. Well, if you add the monikers Epic, Power Metal and even a bit of Symphonic to all of that, then you are in the right ballpark. And what I shouldn’t forget to mention is that this is Female Fronted Metal.

Barbarian - Reek of God

Apparently BARBARIAN plays Speed/Thrash/Black Metal. Well, that is true. And if that will make you think of a project like MIDNIGHT, I wouldn’t blame you, as “Reek of God” does fit in the same ballpark. The big difference between the two being that where MIDNIGHT has more of an early VENOM vibe, you will be hard pressed not to compare BARBARIAN to a band like MOTÖRHEAD, mixed with early EXCITER.

Even though I have quite a good understanding of the English language, I have to admit that there is one title that had me stumped, so I looked it up. The explanation of “Nyctophobia” is that it is an intense, irrational fear of the dark or night-time, often causing severe anxiety, panic attacks, and physical symptoms like sweating or nausea.

If any of my readers ever have had guitar lessons, or feel that they can do with more finger fast exercises, you might want to check out PHILIPPE DOROUIN OBVURT on his latest endeavour, the debut album “Le Chemin Du Gaucher”. This is classed as Technical Death Metal, but this band (project?) from Quebec in Canada does more masturbatory guitar sounds than any other Death Metal band I have even encountered.

Well, first off let me tell you that if you do not like your Doom Metal slow and deliberate, you really need to stay away from VAST PYRE. They have the ability to go slow, but also very Heavy in a rather low toned sound, making it all come out in a very menacing and threatening way.

What I do know is that when DEATHASSAULT tones it down a bit, even becomes a bit of emotional in their approach, "DeathAssault" sounds a lot more intense and sincere. When the singer then puts on his clean vocals, you feel that you have entered a whole other world.
