ALTARED STATES was actually formed in 1989, only to be disbanded in 1990. The made their return in 2019, and have been around ever since. On “Borrowed Time” they give us the time to embrace 5 songs.

I do feel that the music that DEFECTO plays on “Echoes Of Isolation” has all the hallmarks of a band that is letting loose, giving it their all. I therefore have to admit that for the first time in 2026, I am smitten. What a brilliant treat this is.

Starlight Ritual - Rogue Angels

The vocals have surprised me. At times Damian Ritual sounds a lot like the late Paul Di’Anno, mainly due to him having the same kind of vibrato, but also because on some songs the vocal lines sound as if they could have straight out the deceased frontman’s pen. But when he goes shrill and high he has a bit of Dave Mustaine in his voice as well.

I actually have the original CD of the USURPER album “Divine Spiritual and Intellectual Development” in my possession. What we have here is the Dutch Thrash Metal version of USURPER, a band that was very active in the second half of the eighties up and until the early nineties.

Death Dealer - Reign Of Steel

As far as DEATH DEALER's music is concerned, you can compare “Reign Of Steel” to anything you might hear from THE THREE TREMORS in comparison to any other band the members are active in. This is very Heavy Power Metal with a lot of over the top vocals complementing the rather busy, utterly impressive and quite intense and intricate guitar playing by the two outstanding guitarists.

Assignment - With The End Comes Silence

Musically this is sandwiched between some subtle Melodic Metal and pure unadulterated Heavy Metal. You will hear the band bouncing from one to another and back with great ease, giving the music on “With The End Comes Silence” a versatility that avoids you getting bored in that respect.

As this is as Death Metal as music can get, the emphasis can now shift unto how and what REDIVIDER are bringing on “Sounds Of Malice”. Well, let me start by saying that the production of this album is without fault. It is hard, it is Heavy, but it also is transparent and very clear, making sure that you are able to hear what the band wants you to hear.

Drowned In Silver - Mothers

I have to say is that although this goes way beyond that which I’m used to listening, I found myself being utterly intrigued and, in this case, even mesmerised by what I hear on “Mothers”. Even though the songs are quite lengthy, DROWNED IN SILVER never gives you the feeling that they are too long.

Everything on “Mediterranean Melancholy” is rather lengthy, but not once are you wondering when the song is going to end. There are no boring pieces, you will hear no fillers being used by OLD NIGHT, be it short or long.

HYPERION isn’t the next band to take over the world, but they are a band that has the ability to please and entertain a lot of (mostly) old fashioned Metal fans with the music they have provided us with on “Cybergenesis”. And because they have been able to provide the record with a very clear, transparent, but above all contemporary sound, a lot of the young Metal afficionados might be quite willing to not only give this a go, but also their sign of approval.

On “Setting Fire To The Sky” URNE demonstrates that they are able to show different sides of themselves, whilst the sound and foundation available will convince you that you still are listening to the same band. What makes this an even listening experience is that all the songs bring a lot of quality to the turntable, making it very easy to like and/or admire this album.

PAGAN ALTAR might not have conquered the world with this album, I do believe that, judging by what I am hearing on “Lords of Hypocrisy”, they did and do deserve a whole lot more credit than they have had throughout their career. And in that respect, you have to applaud Dying Victims Productions for pushing the boat out by airing this album for a second time.

If you then open the homepage of the band, you will see that they categorise themselves as a Pagan Folk Rock band. Well, let me put your mind at ease, they are both right.

BASTARD SKULL hails from New Jersey in the USA and have just released their debut album “Bastard Skull” at the beginning of 2025. They did that on their own accord. Now, at the end of that same year the label WormHoleDeath has picked them up and has decided that a rerelease through them is in order. And in order to add to the pleasure of the music the label decided that the addition of the EP “More Dread” that came after the album was more than justified.

What I have hear with “Kali” is the second album of this Alternative Rock band, the debut being “Balanced Darkness” from 2023. I haven’t heard that one, but I have a feeling that is about to change, as to me what PTOLEMEA brings on “Kali” is nothing less than interesting, and at times even bloody good.
