“To quote Step Brothers, it just feels good 'to make beautiful music for a sad world.'" - Sami Wolf, Moon Wizard
January 26, 2025
Moon Wizard is a Stoner/Doom Metal out of Salt Lake City, Utah. After three independent albums the band caught the attention of Hammerheart Records who promptly signed the band and re-released their third album, "Sirens," in January 2025 to wide acclaim from Brazil to Sweden to Australia. Gary Hernandez, writer and editor for Metal Temple, recently caught up with guitarist Aaron Brancheau and vocalist Sami Wolf to discuss the band’s origins, their evolution, and future plans.

Blazemth – Gehenna
January 17, 2025
This album wasn’t a total loss, but the band has to find a way to put some distance between them and other bands in the genre. Black Metal’s boundaries are endless, but they chose to stay within specific confines.

Avatarium – Between You, God, The Devil And The Dead

Gutter Bones - Tales from the Bones
January 9, 2025
The old mix between Heavy Metal and Hard Rock never gets old, and this German quartet is a living proof of this idea.

Jinjer – Duél
January 8, 2025
Their sound is indeed unique, and as a band they are a juggernaut, but through all of the time shifts, airier passages, methodological performances, and downright crushing elements, I am left with an album that I just didn’t like as much as I should have. No one can deny the band’s musicianship, but I found the album to be difficult to digest, and to enjoy.

Moon Wizard - Sirens
December 30, 2024
Pro tip for this album: Headphones are a must. And not that crappy pair that came with your phone—I’m talking noise-cancelling, over-the-ear bad boys that will immerse you in the liquid smoke that is MOON WIZARD.

Residual Self – Reseed
December 29, 2024
Although this sound is not my usual cup of tea, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the album. The music is simple, but its groove is quite catchy, and the band combines the best of what both Punk and Hard Rock have to offer. Hop on this ride and just enjoy the journey.

Twisted Mist - Gehenna
December 15, 2024
I was a bit leery about Death Metal and Folk being mixed. The melodic tendencies of Death, however, make the pairing surprisingly compelling. “Gehenna” by TWISTED MIST. Strongly recommended for Pagans and Judeo-Christians alike.

Distant Past – Solaris
December 2, 2024
Altogether I recommend this album on two fronts: First for giving true homage to an often-forgotten sci-fi pioneer; Second, for sticking to their mission of delivering solid metal recalling the glorious distant past.

Thee Old Night – Thee Old Night
November 20, 2024
Although the sound was minimalistic, it was a fairly enjoyable listen, and I found it as close to described as possible. One thing that was notable, was the vibrato at the end of the singer’s notes, it was uncommon, but it worked well with the music and the subject matter.

Derision Cult – The Mercenary Notes, Pt 2
November 14, 2024
Remember the first time you heard ROB ZOMBIE? I do, and I found his sound to be simple, but totally innovative. That was 25+ years ago, and I have that same sense of creativity from DERISION CULT. One thing that struck me from the start of the album is that some of the music is tongue-in-cheek, while other parts are stone sober. It’s like a new wave of refreshing music that will make you think all over again.

Nine Stones Close – Adventures in Anhedonia
November 8, 2024
Take a deep look at the album cover to unlock some of the secrets within. It’s a head shot of a man with black eyes and an expressionless face amidst the bright, vibrant lights of a city. Someone who feels alone, perhaps disenfranchised. Whatever his pain is, it is real, and the songs reflect that, in melancholy, questioning, and anguished tones.
review
Fatal Vision – Three Times Lucky
November 8, 2024
This was a good album. They didn’t re-create the wheel, as that would be nearly impossible, but what they did do well was push emotions in their music, and created some memorable hooks for the listener to take with them. There was also a nice balance between the vocals and the instruments, to the point where one didn’t outshine the other.
