Incineration Of The Pious
Wretched Fate
“Incineration Of The Pious” is punishing and evil, driven by the relentless chainsaw sound of the guitars
Toymaker
Medusian
“Toymaker” is symphonic Death Metal with melodic Metal elements. The sound is epic with grim melodies and prominent orchestral arrangements

The Square
Seven Kingdoms
The Square starts off as a ripper, loses some traction midway, gets back on course, and then runs into a wall of 80’s sentimentality. To be fair, four of the five tracks are very, very good, pretty much making the EP well worth the price of admittance.
Trümmerfestung
Jarl
JARL does not disappoint with Trümmerfestung. Solid 8’s all the way around for this hammer blow of ruthless Black Metal.
Antipole
Norilsk
I like the approach that the band took to expand upon traditional sounds of the genre. The moments of melody, for example, are places at just the right time, to lift up your spirit when it seems to be at its lowest point. But that hardened sense of Doom still heavily permeates the album.
Pylon Cult
Praetorian
This was an excellent album, and the band’s mashup of several styles is part of a modern movement in that direction. The blackened elements keep the aggression ever-present, and the sludgy elements add a layer of weight that is as sturdy as concrete. By the end, I was covered in a thick, black filth.
Gehenna
Blazemth
This album wasn’t a total loss, but the band has to find a way to put some distance between them and other bands in the genre. Black Metal’s boundaries are endless, but they chose to stay within specific confines.
From Origin To Decay
Maat
With a torrent of technical brutal Death from Germany comes an unapologetic display of esoterica.
Antinomian Asceticism
Barshasketh
This music isn’t for the faint at heart. Because once you open the book, its power and secrets come into you. The moment you allow one to enter, all of the others get a free pass. You have to ask yourself, are you able to handle this much power? Save for a few special people, all the rest will fail answering this question. This album was as black as Black Metal gets.
Beckoning Tribulation
Aberrator
In today’s Metal world, many bands are coming up refusing to be limited to one main genre. This relatively new feature in Metal assures that the listener won’t grow tired of the same sound over and over again, and ABERRATOR works hard in this genre bending album to just plow into you and turn you inside out before departing.
Hallowmas
Sons of Guidorah
This Stoner Metal/Doom Metal trio has something different to show to the genres' fans. Taste it!
Refuting the Flesh
Osbcureviolence
Death Metal or Death/Black Metal? The name doesn't matter, just hear to this release!
Night Demon
Mystery Blue

Malevolent Lycanthrophic Heresy
Luring
Atmospheric Black Metal in the vein of the Second Wave is what you'll find on this full-length.
Pandæmonium
Apocalypse
This is a very good Viking Black Metal/Black Metal release.
The Enemy Within
All Involved
A good Modern Metal release, indeed.
Crowned in Corpses
Pathogenic
This album was executed nearly flawlessly. It was cavernous, and resounding, and the aggressive and sometimes nihilistic tones were tempered at just the right times with snippets of melody, showing a band that has a deep well of creativity. The sound drew you in, charmed and beguiled you, like the undertow of the ocean, promising salvation that never materialized. In the end, we are all just dust.
…And The Word Was God
Diatheke
This was a good album, with fantastic musicianship. There were some moments when the transitions were a bit clunky, but there were also some brilliant moments. The band has talent, but they need to sharpen up some of the transitions. This is a band to keep an eye on for sure.
Kingdom Unfold
Rigorious
Missing a few ingredients.
On Shoulders of Giants
Seventh Station
Although their musicianship is nothing less than fantastic, they created an album that is hard to take in and assimilate, and perhaps hard to identify with, at least for me. As a consumer, I am always looking for an uncommon sound, and the next great band. This album is about as unusual as it gets, and I would encourage you to listen to it and make up your own mind.
Cycle of Death
Deus Sabaoth
This is how you do modern Black Metal in my opinion. The band embraces several instruments not often used in the genre, and they take their roots, expand upon them, and usher them into the modern world. It does indeed reflect principles such as the futility of life, and inevitable loneliness that many of us feel.
The Opus Satanas
Project Ultimate Satan
“The Opus Satanas” is a symphonic blackened Death Metal works in six parts with well-thought through compositions, grim melodies, punishing guitar riffing and hammering drumming
The Loss And Redemption
Thy Kingdom Will Burn
"The Loss And Redemption” is dark and heavy, epic, and melancholic. It is a good mixture of all those elements, where the melancholic melodies drive the album
Painted Paradise
Fleshbore
FLESHBORE
’s “
Painted Paradise
,” is the direction that tech death needs to go in. The music is as potent and enthralling as the beautiful cover art.
The Ever-Crushing Weight of Stagnance
Misanthropy
Misanthropy’s “The Ever-Crushing Weight of Stagnance,” is a tech/prog death metal album that dances to its own beat to create music that is imaginative and brutal.
The Embracing Light of Rarohengra
Aeon of Awareness
This was a good album in the style. The band seems to have the Death side of the duality better than the melodic side, and that’s just an observation. If they take their strong base forward, and perhaps add more piano and melody, and even some more clean vocals every now and again, this album could have been excellent.
Längtan
Lamashtu
LAMASHTU pushes the boundaries of Symphonic Metal with Längtan. It’s creepy and melodic and compelling all at once. A great discovery for new fans; a reaffirmation for returning fans.
Between You, God, The Devil And The Dead
Avatarium
Between You, God, The Devil And The Dead is 43 minutes of standout track after standout track. A year and half in the making, this album strikes a high watermark for AVATARIUM.
Pale Grey Monochome
Inborn Suffering
This was an excellent album. The combination of hardened Death Metal with the despondence of Doom was very carefully balanced on the album, as were all of the backing elements that the band uses. What resulted was a rich, full sound of endless gray and unanswered questions…the kind that will gnaw at you until the end of your days.

Confessions
Lord Sin
The songs are unnecessarily long in my opinion, and the entire listening experience is just, well, dull. The best part of the music is probably the thick bass notes, but the scratchy harsh vocals trying to sound mean, and elementary riffs, aren’t doing the album any favors. There isn’t much excitement here.
