Soul Raptor
Zora
The Italian Death Metal scene always brings some very good names, and they're more brutal than the usual, due the usual of ultra-low grunts and lower instrumental tunes as can be reached by one. Names as SADIST, INFERNAL POETRY and others are legends of the country, and one more can be put on this set: the legendary ZORA, a legendary trio from Calabria. And these Death Metal murderers are back with their latest album, "Soul Raptor".
They can be said as a mix between traditional Death Metal influences in a vein similar to CANNIBAL CORPSE, Brutal Death Metal (due the low tunes used in their songs) and Grindcore. And in their almost 20 years of their neck breaking career, they keep as traditional and nasty as they can, but always using the musical elements they keep since the beginning with wisdom (playing Death Metal is not a matter of playing dirty and nasty, you must have full knowledge of what you're doing). It's brutal and massive, and really a very good experience. As one can think, the trio is in a traditional Death Metal outfit, what means that the conception on the sonority is to be crude and nasty. But they did something that can be understood without complaints (at least, for those that are traduced to Death Metal as it means to be). It could be better, but's not bad.
The fast and nasty brutality shown on the bass guitar and drums on "Social Fakework" (very good rhythmic changes), the traditional Death Metal outfit of "Induced Objectivity" (very good grunts and shrieks), the Grindcore elements of "Lobotomy" (pay attention to the guitar riffs), the fast brutal parts of "Distorted Personality", the blood puke Death Metal song called "I Can't Breathe" (a brutal and nasty set of guitar riffs entwined by technical drums, and the lyrics are references for the crime committed by North American police by choking George Floyd), the onslaught imposed by the rhythmic kitchen on "Soul Raptor", and the fast massacre heard on "Ego Psychotic" are the best ones for a first time on "Soul Raptor".
ZORA did a very good work on "Soul Raptor", but it's clear that their finest moment is still about to come in the future (they have talent and potential to do it).
