Human Plague

Althought J.P. Soars (ex- Malevolent Creation member) is behind the vocals and guitars of Wynjara, that doesn't mean that the group has any infuences from Malevolent Creation. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard Wynjara playing in a mostly mid tempo riff-attitude combining a lot of melodies. Certainly Human Plague is a non-Underground Death Metal or brutal album.
Wynjara were named after an Aboriginal dialect, including former Monstrosity and Alas guitarist Jason Morgan and ex-Malevolent Creation, ex-Paingod and current Divine Empire and Burner guitarist J.P. Soars. The homonymous debut 2000 album includes a cover version of the Scorpions' Animal Magnetism.
I could say that Wynjara play modern Death Metal, or more specificaly, Swedish Death Metal with the classic melodic paths and atmospheric passages (unfortunately I was expecting a more American Brutal/Grind kind of thing from such an American band). There are no chaotic or brutal moments, no techical parts and it is obvious that they don't try to be the heaviest band in the world. Unfortunately the album has many instrumental / atmospheric tracks like Meltdown (intro), Rebirth, Transformations, Walking Dead and Aftermath (as you can see nearly the half album), which make a more bored and monotonous album. As well as the seventh song, I am, is also a slow and boring song, with brutal vocals. In every track of the album you can predict what's gonna be played in the next following moment and that is evidence of wearinness.
Of course this album does have a good reason to exist and that's simply because it can be easily heard by a non-Death Metal fan. I certainly do not belong in that category...
