Wykked Wytch - Memories Of A Dying Whore album cover

Metal music, in general, begun as an underground movement. As the years passed, some bands became famous and even the rocks knows them. But even though we still love the music that most of those bands still play, the real power of our beloved music is still in the underground. But that doesn't mean that all underground bands deserve something.

Ipek formed WYKKED WYTCH in Philadelphia in the mid-90s. The band released its debut album Something Wykked This Way Comes in 1996. Just after the album was out the band started performing live. Between live shows, where they played with bands like KREATOR and SODOM, and many lineup changes, they released two more albums, Angelic Vengeance and Nefret, in 2001 and 2004 respectively.

I know that some of you will disagree with me, but I didn't like this album. Their effort to put together symphonic parts with Thrash, Black and Death Metal, is, in my humble opinion, a disappointment. It's just like having all the ingredients for a recipe that others managed to make something nice, but you are not a good cook and the thing you prepared is uneatable. The voice of Ipek is somewhere between Otep, Angela (ARCH ENEMY and Dani (CRADLE OF FILTH). But, unfortunately for the band, she doesn't even get close to their standards. As for the music itself, as I wrote earlier, they are trying to put together elements that made other bands well-known, but they don't succeed. The overall outcome is boring. I had the impression that I was listening to the same two songs over and over again.

Anyway, enough said. I am trying to support the underground and I will continue to do it. But in some cases there is nothing anyone can do. In my humble opinion, I believe that you can find something better to listen from that scene.
