From the mythical land of Chicago, Illinois, comes Thrash Metal band WRATH with their fifth full length album "Rage". Formed in 1982 the band released their first full length album in 1986 which was a huge year for Metal. The first tack "Conflict" begins hard and heavy. It's a straight headbanger that stays true to Thrash Metal. The hard hitting drums played by Jake Fromkin and the guitars played by Rob Noon and Scott Nyquist are what stand out to me in this first song.
The second track "What You Crave" is slower than the first song. But it's pretty damn good. I can really appreciate the bass lines in it by Gary Modica. This song really reminds me of ANTHRAX and the guitar solo at the end really kicks ass. The third song on the album "Draw Blood" begins with some crazy riffs and kick ass bass and drum work. I really like Gary Golwitzer's vocals in this song as well. It's probably one of my favorite tracks on the album.
The fourth track on the album "Tension on High" starts off with a fierce energy that gets your blood pumping. Everyone in the band does a phenomenal job on this track. It has an old school thrash feel to it. A definite headbanger for sure. I think the guitars and drums were my favorite thing on this song though. "My Rage" the fifth song on the album has some vocals at the beginning that remind me of KING DIAMOND. All in all this song was pretty good, a bit long and repetitive but still good.
"Feeding the Host" honestly is kinda like a copy and paste of the other songs, the only difference is the shreds and drums. I feel like this song they kinda dropped the ball on. It's still a good song but it just needed something more than it provided. The seventh song "Clearing My Soul" is like if SLAYER toned down like ten levels and smoked a little too much weed and had a kid with ANTHRAX. I almost guarantee that people obsessed with Thrash would absolutely love this track. The next track "Unholy Alliance" is pretty much the last track but sped up a little bit. Nothing wrong with either I personally just feel that it's monotonous, the only thing saving it are the guitars once again. "Mothers hell" is the second to last track on the album and I'm not sure where they were headed with this song. It honestly made no sense to me at all but it was still a good song. The final track is a cover of MOTORHEAD'S "The Ace of Spades" and I have to say that this is one of the better covers of this song I have heard. "Rage" was an alright album but like I said before I feel like it was missing something and I can't put my finger on it. Thrash fans I think you should give this album a try because this is only my opinion and the band deserves your opinion as well.
