Wraith - Undo The Chains album cover

So we have a four piece band called WRAITH from Indianna, USA who formed back in 2016. Since then they have released 2 full length albums, 2 EP's and numerous singles between 2018 - 2021. They were once described as "one of the most scorching, up-and-coming speed/thrash acts from around the globe just happen to reside not far from Hated One's home turf". Hated One who also took a great interest into the band said that "WRAITH are fast becoming one of the hottest acts on the planet".

WRAITH are now back after 2 years since their second album, ABSOLUTE POWER now have a brand new album making this their third full length album titled UNDO THE CHAINS. The album arrived last month through Redefining Darkness Records and is now available in all formats too. The album begins with an instrumental track lasting only 1 minute, "Undo The Chains" and we are now straight into the next track titled "Dominator". This second track launches us into sheer, almighty speed metal with a blackened thrash of class. Just under 3 minutes, it's a fantastic opener giving us a teaser of what's to come. "Gate Master" also follows the same vibe highlighting guitar licks like no other.

There is a lot to like about this band and the third track really shows their masterclass in speed metal with punk influences too. "Mistress Of The Void" is short but deadly in the force of nature, thundering into the fifth track. "Cloaked In Black" comes with accented notation with guitar, the sliding vibrato is wicked and is structured well with blackened punk sound. The drums bring that side out more, the guitar portrays the eccentric speed metal sound, just mesmerising.

"Born To Die" does carry on the punk side, with hardcore and fast rhythms too, the black metal elements clarified by vocals mostly. The guitar breakdown and crescendo is simply staggering and magnificent. This track and the next one, "Time Wins" is pulled back in volume and shorter in duration. But the themes of religion, war, violence and death is clear as vocals bring out the darker edge of this band leaving us in anticipation. The guitar rings out harmonically, later on in this track where the tempo is emphasized. "Gift Of Death" pulsates at a very racy rhythm and triumphs with guitar echoing through the sound field. "Disgusting" is just a short track with all instruments then shot into the next track. The anthem of vocals with soloistic guitar is simply sizzling. "Victims For The Sword" is cutting edge with guitar and vocals contributing to layers of craziness of the blackened speed metal sound.

But last but not least, "Terminate" is literally the final chapter of this epic iconic album by such a captivating group of musicians. This album finishes really in style where there are broken guitar notation, providing the black metal discord and conclusion overall. The subtle noise at the end is like a sound of gravel or digging, it's not clear but no doubt, this album is just exquisite. It really is a symbolic gesture of classic punk dashed with elements of black metal and thrash, the guitar melodies are just the icing on the cake. So hold onto your hats and be prepared, WRAITH is here to stay, fantastic sound.
