Krighsu
Wormed
WORMED is a Sci-Fi/Tech Death Metal band based out of Spain. Formed in 1998, this is their third full-length album, and contains ten tracks. If the opening track, "Pseudo-Horizon," is any indication of what is to come, we are in for a serious assault, the kind that could lay waste to universes. The pace is super-fast, the vocals are beyond intense, the drums are mind-boggling, and the meter is varied so much that you have a headache after the listen. There isn't much in the way of a discernable pattern of melody, but that is the point to many extent. "Neomorph Mindkind" has more of a noticeable groove at times, but refuses to sit still for any length of time. The guttural vocals really cut right into you, like a chainsaw with newly sharpened blades. They are done in the most extreme way possible.
"Agliptian Codex Cyborgization" sounds about what you might expect from the amorphous and futuristic label of the title. In many ways, their Sci-Fi theme can be heard even without having access to the lyrics. It's ultra-frigid and sterile, about as far from melody as can be. "Eukaryotic Hex Swarm" is the first track that does not come at you out of the gates at 120 MPH, but rather builds a little suspense first. However fairly quickly the machine gun drumming takes over and you feel like you are on a battlefield along as the enemy closes in with an impossible amount of rounds fired. "Computronium Pulsar Nanarchy" registers in low chords and bottom end bombast. It's a bit unlike some of the other tracks on the album in that there is some ambiance building in the background which adds another layer to the technical sound. "57889330816.1" is an interesting title. Like the outer-world, as if they were building highly intelligent robots on a cold, distant planet, it's a much shorter song and only contains the background elements and some ominous spoken word.
"Molecular Winds" is the closing track, and the longest, at nearly seven minutes in length. They manage to work in some more structure here amidst the mostly chaotic landscape, showing a different side to their songwriting. One can appreciate the pure, unadulterated brutality and technical prowess on this album, and the unrelenting method of composition, but I also appreciate the moments of diversity because too much of one thing for too long can make things sound repetitive. For the style this is a good album. If you are hankering for an album that will just tear you to pieces this one is for you.
