Words Of Farewell

WORDS OF FAREWELL are a Progressive / Melodic Death Metal Band from Germany, formed in 2006 and released an EP, a Demo and their debut album "Immersion" ever since. "The Black Wild Yonder" is their sophomore album, scheduled to be released on February 28th via AFM records.
It's not that easy to put WORDS OF FAREWELL's music into a specific category, in fact, the music displays a great musicianship, technically speaking, blending elements of Melodic Death with Progressive Metal. I'd still label the band as Melodic Death anyway. The songwriting is solid with tight riffs, catchy melodies and an overall convincing band performance. The production of the album is very neat as well, everything actually sounds right in place.
The opening track "Continuum Shift" is instantly catchy and kicks off the album in a vigorous manner, summing up pretty much everything you will hear on this record. Some tracks though have special highlights such as "Damaged Beyond Repair" with its beautiful keyboards and the more atmospheric feeling of it. Still, the album somehow lacks some diversity and kind of loses its luster by the last tracks.
In conclusion, the album is a very good effort by the band, it somewhat brings something different from your run-of-the-mill Melodic Death Metallers but it still has nothing that special about it either.
