Woods Of Ypres - Woods Four-The Green Album album cover

I heard a sample of the band WOODS OF YPRES a few years ago, and I was not very impressed at that moment.  I was disappointed at that time, and sort of not followed up on it in any way.  Now with the bands release of Woods Four: The Green Album.... My eyes were opened.

This Canadian band blends some atmospheric Doom Metal with an artistic vision that is as bleak as a prairie winter.  With lyrics that are bleak, yet very strong while the music as heavy as an avalanche... WOODS OF YPRES are a band that seems to be making metal into a true artistic form.

With tracks like the powerful worded lyrics of Shards of Love to the ballbreaking heaviness of Retrosleep in the Morning Calm, this is a band that has some major talent, and perhaps a airing of dark humour as well, adds to the music as a whole.  Each and every song here has life and a purity that many in metal fail to actually discover for themselves... while still crushes you with heaviness and bold riffs.

It is a powerful set of sixteen songs that the Wood boys have brought to the table.... it is a testament to how Canadians are truly ( I am one).  They will never be a commercial act... but for the true metalheads out there - who cares?  WOODS OF YPRES are just damned good.
