WOODEN SHADOW is a one-man Melodic Death Metal band from Finland. This is his debut album, and it has ten songs. "Sorrowland PT. 1" is the first song. It's a short introductory song with keys, backing ambiance and some Folky qualities to go with the depressive tones. "Nocturnal Force" has a richer, and fuller sound, fueled by raging drums and plenty of supportive elements. The vocals are nasty, harsh screams with a lot of energy. The clean vocals add another layer to their sound, but it's all about the fierce screams. "Chaosreign" is a bit deeper, darker, and slower at first, but it picks up. Jeremia layers the sound with a lot of backing elements, and it helps to thicken up the sound.

"Murhe" begins with ominous tones that are also glorious. It's like turning the corner in a jungle and seeing a monument of old rising in the sky. The twin guitar work really helps to solidify these feelings of grandeur. "Rain of Tears" has an almost Power Metal gallop to it, and Jeremia is reaching deep into his bag of songwriting. The harsh vocals are deep and powerful, and again, the background is rich. "Shadows in Wintertime" is a shorter song with no less might and power. But as with some albums with more than eight songs, some of the sound is running together a bit. "Dweller in the Mourning Forest" has some nice lead guitar melodies in the opening sequence, and again, I also hear some Folky elements. Folk and MeloDeath can at times blur together, so that makes sense to me as a listener.

"Colourfade" closes the album. Charming and melancholy leads open the song, followed by bass guitar and drums. Layers are added slowly, and the feeling of the end is nigh. As the colors fade, all you have left are the muted tones of purple from the album cover. Overall, considering this entire album was composed and performed by one musician, and is his debut, you have to give him credit. His offerings were at times diverse, and he builds strong layers in the music as well. All he can do from here is improve on some of the little things, and the sky is the limit.
