Wolverine - The Window Purpose album cover

Wolverine is a Progressive Metal band from Sweden. Their music is heavy, clear and mixes elements of Death Metal with their swirling melodies. The guitar-work is hard and clear. Wolverine's guitar-work is like being pulled into a river and tugged irresistably along. They keyboardist is quite good and frequently uses the rock organ or a synth that sounds similiar. The vocalist has a strong, lightly accented voice. He sings in both clean and Death Metal styles. Wolverine's music has an eeriely soothing quality to it. The Window Purpose is a Rock opera about love, dysfunction and death.
Song by song breakdown:
My Room is intricate, dynamic and can be very heavy. The keyboard-work might even outshine the guitars on this song, and it is pretty good. Sometimes the keyboards have a bird-like chirping that I like. The vocals are good. It sounds Dream Theather-ish at times, in it's melodic insanity. My Room is about living and is also the main character inviting us to hear his story.
His Cold Touch is a mid-tempo and dynamic song. The keyboard-work sometimes has that bird-like sound but here it frequently morphs into an electronic creature. The guitar-work is excellent, particularly the lead. It is about child abuse and the resulting dysfunction.
... no, this is not a typo. This is the name of song four. It is a lovely and clear instrumental. It chimes along, not sad so much as dancing curiously down a path. It's quite good.
Leaving Yesterday has particularly good guitar-work that rings like rain on a clear lake. It is a duet and the singers shine on it. It reminds me a little of 1980's theme songs at times. It is a sweet song aboutlove.
Towards Loss sounds a little like a demented, metalized children's song. It is dynamic, melodic and cool. The guitar tone is harsher here than on previous songs and it has wonderful lead.  The keyboard-work is eerie and crashes like danger.
On The Storm Inside the singer uses a cool, and somewhat creepy, vocal effect. It is dynamic and can be very heavy. I hear the Dream Theater influence kicking in here again. It is about a suicide attempt.
Coma is dynamic, cool and alternates between being frantic and slow and disturbing as the protagonist's life ebbs away from him.
Release is a soft instrumental that serves a healthy dose of melancholy with its beauty. Post Life sounds like a lullabye carrying over into your nightmare. It is soft, eeire and poignant. The music is beautiful and dynamic. The bird-like keyboard has returned, and the guitar-work is especially cool on this track. On Post Life the main character's girlfriend joins him in death.
Again! is the best track on the album. It is dynamic, melodic, and alternates between sadness and hopefulness. The guitar-work is extremely beautiful. On this song the main character realizes that he has not lost his lady after all. It's too bad it took dying for him to realize this.
The Window Purpose is beautiful and cathartic. I recommend it highly.
