WOLFSPRING is the new side-project of Jean-Pierre Louveton , who is the guitarist and lead vocalist of NEMO, a progressive Rock band with big discography and well known in France but also relatively unknown outside of their country. So WOLFSPRING, which is also a progressive Rock band, have recently released their homonymous debut album. Unlike NEMO the lyrics are not in French but in English, a move that was probably done so that their music could reach a much wider audience. And that's why Jean-Pierre Louveton is not the lead singer in this project due to his limited English.

The music of WOLFSPRING is modern progressive Rock with the band stating PORCUPINE TREE as one of their influences; so don't expect any things that will remind you of the 70s. Their style is based on well built melodies in the guitars and keyboards with really few 'heavier' outbursts during the songs. You won't listen to very technical or fast riffs and solos are mostly slow/mid tempo stuff. "WolfSpring" has its pros and cons... There are some very very good songs like the opener "The Haunting", "Mutation" and "Train's Gone" with great melodies and structure. On the other hand there a couple of weaker songs: "Now Or Never" was by far the most uninspired song of the album. Also "24/7" was a mediocre song with the exception of one great riff/melody, used in the beginning and middle of it, which is almost similar to a riff at around the 4th minute of "I Go Insane" a song of the great album "Fused" by IOMMI AND GLENN HUGHES. There are also two instrumentals of good quality here.

All in all, "WolfSpring" is a good album with the band showing big potential and abilities, but also has some weaknesses. If you are a fan of modern and generally progressive Rock or you listen to bands like PORCUPINE TREE then this release has many songs that you will find interesting and enjoy listening to.
