No Light, Only Fire

Farnborough, UK based WITCHSORROW have increasingly become a well known presence onto the Doom Metal scene and with this powerful new release they bring next month it is easy to see why.
Critics of Doom Metal often state that songs are far too long and they consist of different elements that make all tracks sound similar to another. That often means they are doing themselves proud as even though the same sounding elements appear in the songs of their latest release "No Light, Only Fire" it is still somehow rather enjoyable in a weird way. I even found myself headbanging to some of the tracks on the bus to work two consecutive days in a row.
Luckily for these guys, I am a relatively new fan to Doom Metal; I particular admire how straightforward yet complex the songs tend to be. Even if it's deemed dark and gloomy, it is somehow rather chilled and mind numbing. The album contains strong, pounding riffs and easy listening vocals that make the album rather pleasurable to listen to; this is demonstrated extremely clearly in the tracks "There Is No Light There Is Only Fire", "Negative Utopia" and "To The Gallows".
The sound actually reminds me of Doom Meta legends BLACK SABBATH which may sound like a cliché coming from a new fan of the genre but it actually does; feel free to disagree. This new release seems a little more Melodic than their previous releases I had a brief chance of listening to; particularly in the vocal work provided by Necroskull, it seems a lot clearer in this record compared to the more Sludge vibe in the prior material.
This new release has given me a great introduction to this straight to the point and dark music from this Doom Metal trio who happen to be based in my local postcode area. This record is a treat for fans of WITCHSORROW, Doom Metal and people who are looking for something new and interesting.
