Sometimes when new and upcoming British bands form, they make their music sound very deep and dirty as if they were part of an underground Rock scene which does make sense if you are new and getting the word out about yourself to promoters, labels, fans and critics alike. Because of this, they usually get classified under the genre Alternative Rock which when you think about it does make sense as they take the Rock sound and make it their own.

One band who does just that is a new London based trio called WITCHINGSEASON who this year release their debut self titled EP. There's not much info I can get about this band as they formed this year so I'll skip past the band info and get straight on with reviewing their 4 song debut self-titled EP.

The EP which clocks in at around 19 minutes playtime is actually quite a good effort from this new band. I've reviewed a lot of new bands this year but this is the first I've got where the genre falls under the Alternative Rock genre and that means the sound is very deep and dirty which normally with some bands would mean that it would be rubbish as you wouldn't be able to hear the music or make sense of the lyrics right? That may be the case with some Alternative Rock bands but not with WITCHINGSEASON it doesn't.

I mean sure the music is a bit hard to interpret at times because of the dirty underground style sound but for the most part you can hear it and it does sound quite cool in this dirty underground style and it does grow on you after a while.

So what about the rest? The guitar sounds very dirty, the drums sound basic but good for this type of music, the bass lines are quite groovy and the vocal performance which may sound a bit off when you listen to it at first soon becomes more clearer and the dirty tones used in the vocal melodies do start to make sense the more you listen to it and you realize that actually, this isn't too bad as it works for this dirty underground style of Rock.

So now it's verdict time and I am quite impressed by the debut self titled EP from WITCHINGSEASON and although it may be the first Alternative Rock album I have reviewed for the site, it probably won't be my last as I am always intrigued by new bands to see if they have the potential to one day be as big as some of the big chart bands we see today and some do have the potential to be maybe not as big as those names but big enough to get a good following in their local music scene and this band are just that so keep your eyes on these guys.
