I don't know if you remember WISHDOOM and their very good 2008 self-released mini CD "Up The Hammers". The band impressed not only me but a lot of people with the epic approach of heavy and in some points doom sound. My curiosity for their new opus was great and so, here comes another mini album again self - released under the title "Winds Of War".
What one can easily notice is the progress the band has made in all levels. What makes the basic difference between its predecessor is that here, WISHDOOM deliver real songs and not just a pastiche of good ideas. They have given such power and heaviness inside their tracks that can catch you from the very beginning just by that. Besides this, they look much more as a whole, as a band -if you prefer- with a remarkable tightness as solid as a rock. All these can be found in two super songs, "The Battle Of Plataea" and "Guardians Of Steel" which -to put it as simply as possible- are ass shaving!!! MANOWAR meets OMEN meets CANDLEMASS but all these with the personal band's touch. Fantastic vocals, great guitars and more fuckin' great solos coming from another era.
Same can be said for the doom and dark "To Eternity" that apart from the entirel atmosphere includes a riff that will melt your brain. Last, after the very nice intro "Winds Of War" (this is like a "Memento" review) "My Wish Your Doom" is the song that reminds me a lot of "Up The Hammers" and has a bombastic refrain.
The band has already signed with Metal On Metal Records and they are preparing the debut album called "Helepolis" due for this October. Then, we will have the chance to say more things about them. So far, I find the new tracks at least impressing, this MANOWAR based song writing and guitar soloing will rip your heads; especially now that the Americans are more plastic than Barbie dolls. So, while waiting for the album, check them without second thoughts.
