WHYZDOM is a female fronted Philharmonic Metal band with huge orchestra and choir from France. The project was founded by the guitarist and orchestrator Vynce Leff in early 2007, first EP "Daughter Of The Night" was recorded in 2008 and one year ago in 2009, their album "From The Brink Of Infinity", in 2012 album "Blind?" and on February 17th 2015 new album titled "Symphony For A Hopeless God".
I like very much the track; "Let's Play With Fire", where heavy guitars and anxious mood of choir, melodic violins provide a mega catchy chorus. This is true Power Metal with big doses of power and a brilliant guitar solo! Stunning stronger guitars with energetic Philharmonic elements and so high, epic and catchy refrain are in "Don't Try To Blind Me". Opener "While The Witches Burn" has nice choir singing in Latin from beginning and even bells. Massive guitars with Symphonic trumpets in the background is amazing and make me remember about songs of DIMMU BORGIR.
Everyone who loves a female on vocals like in LACUNA COIL, THERION or EVANESCENCE, will love WHYZDOM too. Perfect song is "The Mask" where gentle guitars changing into melodic heavy ones and together with Symphonic elements, they sound totally killer! Powerful chorus singing in high style with melody and even nice folkish echoes with gentle flute - that all makes this track as a high star on this album. Awesome Symphonic elements with Opera vocals are in "Waking Up The Titans" together with a fantastic Symphonic choir. Gentle female vocal has little similarity to Aya of UNSUN and choir in the refrain could bring goose-flesh to every music lover. Nice sounding operatic female vocal together with male hoarse voice.
Marie Rouyer sings in very nice way, her Mezzo-soprano give power and melody to Heavy Metal mixed with Progressive and Symphonic elements. It is hear able in "Pandora's Tears" where together with philharmonic violins, heavier guitars and amazing guitar solo she sounds just superb!
Very interesting song is "Where Are The Angels" where bass playing by Xavier Corrrientes working like in progressive metal songs and reminding me of DREAM THEATER. Here also, you can hear depth, nice choir, and also CORVUS CORAX echoes. In "Theory Of Life" is a nice climate of playing with fine Progressive Metal in rhythmical section, I love especially the bass work here.
Hard guitars, drums, bass and trumpets, violins make exalted mood in titled "Tears Of A Hopeless God" where is Opera choir and many Progressive and Symphonic elements with a high refrain chorus! Opener "Eve's Last Daughter" with Operatic, calm singing sounds like a ballad and then heavier guitars with interesting Progression rhythm and Symphonic choir change this track into something more powerful.
Summing up, this third album of WHYZDOM is a mix of Heavy Metal, Progressive Metal, and Symphonic Metal with Philharmonic orchestra, melody and choir singing. Listenable is the experience of musicians & respect for them that they connect, in their music, sensitive moments with heaviness. This is perfect a mix with catchy sounds. Their music would be loved by listeners of NIGHTWISH, EPICA, THERION, UNSUN, LACUNA COIL or EVANESCENCE and for every female fronted band lover. Highly recommend! Album on high level!
