WHITE WIDDOW is a Hard Rock band from Melbourne, Australia born in 2008. The band is influenced by bands such as SURVIVOR, DOKKEN, NIGHT RANGER, WHITE SISTER, and GIUFFRIA. They released their self-titled debut album in 2010. This was quickly followed by their sophomore release "Serenade" in 2011. The band hit the road to play all over Europe in support of this release. Former drummer GEORGE KRISTY's unfortunate death and the departure of the original bass player in 2013, lead to a regroup and the release of their third full-length album "Crossfire" in 2014. WHITE WIDDOW's fourth full-length album "Silhouette" was released in late 2016. This album comes in with ten tracks and a listening time of about 38 minutes.
The opening track "Stranded" starts off 80's style all the way. The opening keys took me way back. The music as a whole has a very Classic Rock feel with a Pop edge. The guitars are groovy and flow seamlessly and the drums are punching but laid back with the bass chugging along. The vocals are bellowing clean. I actually find them very pleasing to the ear. They do have a Pop-Rock feel to them, but fit well in overall. Track two, "Surrender My Heart", comes in with that same key intro that we all know from the 80's era. The music still keeps that groovy and laid back feel, but allows the guitars to show off a bit more in this track. The guitars alone take this track up another notch. The solos are perfectly catching. Their deeper layers are complimented by the bass well and the drums are a bit faster, but still keep the track mellow.
"Last Chance For Love", track four, is a power love ballad. It's a Soft Rock that I totally see my Mother rocking out to in her 20's. The nostalgia is real here. The Pop-esque undertones to an 80's Soft Rock track mixed with bellowing vocals makes me think of something that would be in 'The Breakfast Club' or a similar movie of the era. The musical aspects are done perfectly, and while a bit on the Poppy side, a nice listen. Track seven, "Game Of Love", is a little stronger with some pretty epic guitar solos that bring the level up another notch. It is still very Pop heavy Rock, but the guitars help bring a little more of the Rock feeling to the overall sound. At about 2:20 we get to experience the finishing touches to the beginning guitar, rounding out the last minute or so nicely.
The final track, "Sleeping With The Enemy" is another track that kicks up the heaviness a little more. The music here is really good, the vocals are nice, but they are the reason even the heavier tracks can't keep that sound. While the track is good, like the rest of the album, the vocals help elevate that Pop 80's meets Rock feel. WHITE WIDDOW is the epitome of that 80's Pop Rock sound, here in 2017. The vocals hold so many memories. The music gives off a feeling of youth. "Silhouette" is today's homage to yesterday's sound. If you are looking for an album that will take you back a couple of decades, this is it.
