Arriving onto the scene with a whirling cyclone of Symphony they conjured from nothing is WHEN PLAGUES COLLIDE. The quintet from Belgium has released their debut, full-length release into the wilds. Tutor of the Dying is eleven songs of maddening gracefulness that can give most Death bands a decent run for their money. WHEN PLAGUES COLLIDE already comes off challenging the award for 'Most Gruesome Song Title' with "Fertilization with The Bodies of Man". The inspiration is pure CATTLE DECAPITATION with Travis Ryan inspired vocals and punishing drum beatdowns.

Wouter Dergez's vocals can be described as cannibalistic by the way the harmonizing screeches almost seem to devour each other. It's an unsavory entwining of the sounds of insanity eating each other alive. Rumbling reverb on Bastiaan Barbieux's bass echoes like a warning, waiting for the rest of the chords to finish each other off. WHEN PLAGUES COLLIDE bristles with a furious air that soars high above the audiocide and swoops back down for the final kill on "Dictating Violence". It's the piano playing that really seals the whole 'Sophisticated but Violent' vibe that WHEN PLAGUES COLLIDE are going for. Now and again, an otherwise out of place interlude sounds off in the middle of the bloodbath like the string quartet playing as the Titanic sank. The haunting "Als Imperatieve Grootmacht" showcases spoken-word Dutch and gibbering-mad growls that circle around Wouter Durgez like haunted wind.

Title track "Tutor of the Dying" showcases damned choirs and aggressive vocals played against a backdrop of hellish noise and inescapable violent riffs. When it's all over, only the piano remains and the choir laments. There are so many layers of madness to Tutor of the Dying. Not all of them can be processed. WHEN PLAGUES COLLIDE is a Symphonic beast straight from the underbelly of the coldest pits of Hell and scarred, barren landscapes.
