When All Light Dies - Transitions album cover

Over the last decade it was like a swarm that its end couldn't be predicted. It is like an over expanding infestation that has no limits. Well, I won't keep you waiting with another figure of speech; I am talking about yet another modernized, melodic Metalcore band. Yes, I believe that this kind of music, that virtually substituted the old and dominating melodic Death Metal, meaning the Gothenburg style. Though every band has its story before rising to the top stage lights, the outcome is pretty much in the same variation as others like with different background stories. WHEN ALL LIGHT DIES, based in The Netherlands, made their first official mark with an independent full-length album named "Transitions", which followed a self-titled EP that was released two years back. A cause for celebration you say? I think that a celebration can be worked on but probably on the follow up release.

Don't get me wrong, this release has a good and violent vibe that was able to step further than the leaseholders of Metalcore into areas of modern Death Metal. The amalgamation of Death Metal turned out to be mostly owed to the pig squealing vocals by Jeffrey, which also sang in different tones even in clean vocals that were chilly and pretty comatose, and a number of grinding charged riffs of turmoil added by a few melodies. I really tried to feel the progression in the music, but I can't really say that it embraced me as I anticipated it to do. Furthermore, and this is one of the main elements that intensified the album, there is the production. WHEN ALL LIGHT DIES hired the more than skillful hands of Bart Hennephof (TEXTURES) and Yuma Van Eekelen (PESTILENCE) for the entire production of this release. When it comes to that fresh modern sound that surged a pure combustion of power, they proved to be experienced in the field. If the material would have been close to the rate of the production, it would have definitely sky rocketed for sure.

"Transitions", as I perceive it, is a little a nice album with a sense of versatility that would probably be noticeable even more in what will come next but not so much here. Nevertheless, the sweet sounds of the semi-melodic fretwork of "In Ruins", which was the song's basic ingredient that enriched it, together with great vocals. "Guide You Down" showed Jeffery's first time on the clean vocals while the song kept on maintaining aggression yet with several odd time signatures that were played out well. "Shifting Gears" and "Under the Veil" showed the inflaming presence of the new age of Hardcore and Progressive Metal.

Despite the fact these facts, I was just as I mentioned earlier; WHEN ALL LIGHT DIES undertook the means to be creative and they did it, yet, in general their debut sounds like most of the things in the market nowadays.
