While listening to the new WEDNESDAY 13 album, "Undead Unplugged", my first thoughts were, "Wow, this was not what I expected!" For fans of Wednesday, this is a totally different style, but I loved it.  With 5 out of 11 songs being under three minutes long, the lyrics are straight to the point.

The first track "Undead" is the shortest song on the CD, but definitely painted a picture for me. During this tune, I pictured a group sitting around a campfire late at night telling scary stories. It started off the album with a dark, eerie feel that I think will be pleasing to listeners.

"Nowhere" is about new beginnings. In the chorus, he sings about how he is "going nowhere and ya know that I don't care how I'm getting there." Wednesday has an edgy rough voice that compliments the light guitar sound in the background.  The guitar is never overpowering, so it is really easy to focus on the lyrics.

I really like track 7 on this album called, "Welcome to the Strange". Wednesday 13 has a raspy, rough vocal tone that reminds me of his non-acoustic albums. This song talks about what I'm assuming is Wednesday himself. He portrays himself as "his own sideshow act of filth and misery."

Remember all those things you were scared of as a kid? The monster under your bed...the eerie sounds the wind would make....the creaking of the floorboards? Wednesday 13 incorporates all of these childhood nightmares in track 8, entitled "Scary Song". As I was listening, there was one verse that put an image in my mind. "He walks tall and carries a butcher knife, the boogeyman only wants to take your life." I could envision a child who had just been telling scary stories with his friends, sitting in his room before bed, just a little worried about how true those stories really were.

"We All Die" was my least favorite song on this album. In the chorus, Wednesday is apologizing for the things he's done. I didn't care for the style of the song, nor the lyrics. This is one of the only songs on the album that I skipped every time I listened to the CD.

Wednesday 13 "Undead Unplugged" is definitely not a traditional hard rock/metal album, but I think it will have a positive review for fans. The background guitar throughout the whole CD is simple, yet meshes perfectly with Wednesday's lyrics. To produce an acoustic album in this genre was daring, but I think it paid off.
