Hello Temple, today I bring you an album from a small local band that definitely deserves more recognition. The album named "Dark Desires" from the German band WEAK totally took me by surprise. This is the debut album of this band, established since 1999. They released a few E.P.s in the past, but this is their first full-length album.
Throughout the album, they go from style to style; between Power Metal, Gloom, Gothic, and Melodic. It melts all together into a well-rounded album that should please a lot of people. What took me really by surprise is their mastery of so many different genres, and comprising all this into this beautiful melody from start to the end of this album.
The vocal range of Quim seems to have no limit; going from grunt to the Hair Metal type of voice, and using a sweet deep melodic voice on other songs. He really brings a life and a lot of emotion to those songs.
The musicians are also very obviously talented. Going from one genre to another between songs needs a level of adaptability out of the ordinary.
They also included a cover song of "The Safety Dance" in the middle of the album. This also took me by surprise; since I'm from Montreal, Canada where this song originated. This cover version is totally worth listening to, and it also brings the number of styles present in this album to a whole new level with an 80s style synthesizer playing in the background.
This album should give you an idea of the wide array of capability of that band. I recommend you take a moment of your time to give them a listen. This small local band really did an amazing job and they totally deserve some more recognition for this beautiful piece.
