Living Ghosts
We Hunt Buffalo

Hailing from Vancouver, Canada, "Living Ghosts" is the first full length album by WE HUNT BUFFALO. They already have a pair of well received independent EPs out, but since touring with fellow fuzz rockers MONSTER TRUCK, this could be the release that has potential to push them up to the next level.
The trio of suburbanites mix dirty, grimy fuzz rock with heavy stoner metal grooves and progressive breakdowns, creating an overall sound that is as well thought out and composed as it is hard-hitting and driving. The moody melodicism and darkness that is evident here is very reminiscent of groups like CLUTCH, and has a big, thick, warmth to it. Unlike many of the current crop of more psychedelic-sounding retro rockers, WE HUNT BUFFALO have a much darker and heavier edge, and use this to create a very ambient atmosphere. This scope of sounds gives the group their more progressive edge, and can really be heard on songs like "Looking Glass".
Opening with the instrumental "Ragnarok"; which segues straight into "Back to the River"; "Living Ghosts" there is a kind of timelessness to the sound- the opening riff seems to appear out of an aural mist, building to a huge, stomping track. Instrumentally, the album has a weight and heaviness that comes from largely slow moving harmonic shifts. The vocals move from clean singing to shouts and screams in "Prairie Oyster" almost on a sectional basis, whereas the following track "Hold on" is entirely clean and melodic, with an almost sacred feel to it.
This is a great album with lots of great melodic hooks and atmosphere, with a doom-laden weight and stoner approach. The songs explore a lot of different sonic landscapes which really manage to keep the album sounding interesting and fresh, whilst allowing the music room to breathe. Revel in the mighty buffalo meaty goodness.
