Wayward Dawn - Soil Organic Matter album cover

Formed in October 2015 in Skanderborg, Denmark, WAYWARD DAWN plays intense and relentless Death Metal with a massive sound barrier of double bass pedals, heavy guitars played through classic Marshall amps, and a vocal that goes from abysmal growls to rancid and rotten screams. The musical specter spans broadly with inspiration from both old school and modern Death Metal, and the menu consists of fast tremolo-picking and blastbeats, slow and hard-hitting passages, and epic choruses. The lyrical universe features themes such as humanity and society seen from a nihilistic point of view. WAYWARD DAWN has, among other things, played at Aalborg Metal Festival, supported bands like NAILED TO OBSCURITY, JINJER, BAEST and RED WARSZAWA, and in 2017 they made it all the way to the finale of the West Denmark Emergenza Festival, where judges from SPOT Festival and the Danish music magazine GAFFA voted them to win 2nd place out of 12 bands. The band is known for its hyper-energetic live shows with constant use of the windmill headbanging technique and manic interaction with the audience. WAYWARD DAWN was in the studio with Jacob Bredahl in Dead Rat Studio in March 2018 and releases their upcoming debut album "Soil Organic Matter "on August 31st.

"Requiescat In Pace" starts the album off with a bending guitar introduction, until Niklas opens up his lungs with a spoken-word speech at the same tempo as something from Dave Gunn's KING 810. The song builds up, allowing us to await the explosion of rage and pace to hit the tempo harder, it fades out at the end to roll over to the next song

"Soil Organic Matter" starts with a decent deathgrowl from Niklas. The overall tempo picked up from where the previous song left off. There are a few different styles breaking though, there is a sludge paced riff, with a Death Metal vocal, mashed with sped up Blackened Thrash tempo beats. The breakdown in the middle has a shriek almost like Randy Blythe would sound out in any LAMB OF GOD track. The song is brutal and hard-hitting throughout. The tempo is constant, which allows the band members to show us what they are good at, for a debut album it shows a lot of band experience.

"Silence Is for the Dead" opens up with Lukas laying down some heavy drum beats, matched by Rasmus and Jakob's thick guitar melody. The bass is there Kasper, it appears as a bend with the vocals pouring out. The song is less LAMB OF GOD than before, more of a Death Metal feel to it. It works vert well, the balance seems more controlled, with a few dirty bends from the guitars thrown in. Tempo wise, even when it slows down a bit, it never fades enough to dim expectations.

"Blood-Spangled Banner" kicks off with a Brutal Death Metal style, lung bursting vocal experience from Niklas. Tempo is to the max, the Blackened Thrash is in full flow. The band is really merging together to create a blackened harmony that is amazing to behold. The sound is their own. The thrash licks go really well to add a further dimension and depth to the sound of the album and song.<
