Waylander is an Irish band that formed in 1993 and who will be releasing their 4th album "Kindred Spirits"on August 14th in the USA through Listenable Records. A Folk music album mixed with extreme Metal.
I never know what to expect when I see an album listed under Folk Metal, simply because there are many and there's more than one way to combine Folk music with Metal. Sometimes just a violin's used to produce the folk sound, but not Waylander, they also used a tin-whistle to underline the folk music next to the metal sound, giving the album "Kindred Spirits"an extra balance due to the light notes as a contra weight to the dark side and mid growls that are not hard to follow.
Waylander shows skilled team players right from the start. They've been around for almost 20 years and that's to hear on their solid album "Kindred Spirits". Waylander knows who they are and what they're looking for when it comes to their music. They managed to find their own sound, their own ways to share their power and their own ways to grow inside their music. "Kindred Spirits" does show their ability to be the captain and in control of a huge sea coaster.
Waylander as a huge sea coaster with their album "Kindred Spirits" on an ocean tour through heavy storm winds and rough waters. Their strong engine has no trouble to push their huge metal coaster powerful forwards to where ever they want to go, cause despite the rough elements and their hard work they still find room for light notes to keep up the spirit and with that the metal coaster ready, steady and moving, no matter how dangerous the circumstances do get. A great album that pleasantly surprised me, also because I just love the way they've used the flute inside the songs in a steady way that's adding to their strength.
