Knowing that this is all done by one guy changes what I think, the instrumentals just went from awesome to how the hell? Issue is the vocals just sound like screeching. WAXEN solid Black Metal, but the vocals are like a pissed off cat, problem with that, for me at least, is vocals are a make it or break it for a band. With vocals that are on the verge of unbearable, its a little hard for me to listen to this album more than I have to.
Outside of that I want to talk about the instrumentals a bit, a lot of the songs sound the exact same throughout the first half of the album I thought I was just listening to one song.[Aaron1] Although you can't really understand the vocals, with the samples at the end of "Eight The Adept" being airplane sounds, gun fire and the sound of something burning its probably a good guess to say that the song is about warfare, the issue I have with these samples is the instrumentals completely overpowered them, it was a tiny bit of background noise that just sounded like weird bass or guitar riffs until I noticed what was happening. "Hallow Eyes" you can barely hear the vocals making this one of the better songs on the album for me, the song is a slower very repetitive song that sounds like it could be written by any Black Metal band (especially recent ENSLAVED). Although it's fairly basic, it's a bearable song, one of the few on the album unfortunately.
I hate to say it because I was really looking forward to a good new Black Metal album but this album is meh, at best. It may simply be just because I don't like the vocals and I look strongly for good vocals over most other things, but the instrumentals seem rehashed throughout the album a lot and aside from "Hallow Eyes" I didn't really enjoy any songs on this album
