Wax Mekanix
Well if nothing else is said about WAX MEKANIX it is an intreguing and "interesting". Check out the Facebook page, especially the "Who the fuck is WAX MEKANIX" posts. Arch self-publicist or delusional, you decide, but it makes for a concoction a little more spicy than the norm, and we could all do wit a bit of spice at the moment.
WAX MEKANIX is Waxim "Wax" Ulysses Mekanix, an American musician, songwriter, performer, producer, and founding member of American cult rockers NITRO. With his extensive list of collaborators "Wax" has produced the six songs before us. It is not easy to pigeon hole the sound, best I can come up with it is quite a modern Rock sound with (Euro) pop sensibilities. A bit of an off mix of SHINEDOWN and THE BOSS HOSS. There is a bit of a manufactured feel to the music, but this makes it no less infectious. I really should not like this, but I can't help myself!
The song which epitimises the package is "Victorious". This is a pop song dressed up in rock star clothing. A pumping, marching beat with some suitably wailing guitars for good measure, but the vibe has Euro Pop writ large all the way through it, with its rousing upbeat chorus. It is not often you hear the words "so glorious" in a rock song. Other highlights would be "Black". A suitably over the top not quite ballad. Great vocals, groovy percussion and beautiful guitars. A powerful song, very left-field though. "All Freaks" is thumping rock and roll in a VOLBEAT vibe, with some hard hitting lyrics for such an upbeat song.
The whole thing gets under your skin, it is infectious and odd. It is really polished production wise. It feels both lightweight and subversive at the same time. It's poppy, it rocks in the right places, and twists perceptions. I cannot help but like this craziness!
