Waste of Space Orchestra - Syntheosis album cover

This band was formed from the collaboration between ORANSSI PAZUZU and DARK BUDDHA RISING. This band was commissioned by the people behind the Roadburn Festival. They asked particularly to have this collaboration at the very festival. This is very rare for organizers to demand something but they happily obliged! It's a huge honor to get invited to that prestigious festival and even better when they commission huge for songs that's for sure. For those who are wondering, ORANSSI PAZUZU is a Psychedelic Black Metal band and DARK BUDDHA RISING are Doom Metal / Sludge Metal veterans that have a cult following. This album is a remaining of the songs they did for the Festival. The album is in nine parts and is the symbiosis between two different styles that delivers a melting pot of utter goodness.

This is a concept album. It's the story of three people, The Shaman, The Seeker and The Possessor. This actually reminded me a lot of the Terry Goodkind books I read a long time ago. Each have their quest, each have some personal goal to obtain throughout their trials and tribulations. Truth and Knowledge are something everyone can relate to. I enjoyed having three different perspectives flowing through three different people. This is very forward thinking music. It's sure as hell not for anyone but to each his own. They establish a distinct sound, something I never heard before and may never hear again. From Post-Metal to Atmospheric Black Metal mixed with the minimalistic Drone elements. You have something for everyone that enjoys something off the beaten path. You have slight harmonic variations throughout each piece of music. It can be overwhelming at times and the prolong notes on some songs are very poignant and extremely powerful.

After their 2018 performance at the Roadburn Festival, a lot of people asked them to record their 9 piece opus and it didn't take them much time to decide that it was worth the time and effort. They took some time to get the kinks out and they did a masterful job producing this album. The transition from live act to the studio is pretty seamless in my honest opinion. So many tempo changes, from the minimalist drone elements (like I said beforehand) to some pretty intense drumming (and with two drummers on hand, the sound is pretty powerful to say the least) and some haunting vocals. This album transcends all those styles of music and it engages the listener into an out of body experience that has to be seen to be believed. The most unique album you will listen to in 2019 bar none.
