From 2009, the Chicago Illinois band, WARHOUND have been busy pumping up the ever growing Hardcore scene, by releasing two full lengths and one classic EP: "Freedom". With great progression over these five years, the band seemed to have kept their original sound, but also adding a modern Rap twist to their songs, originating from the history of their hometown.
"Next Level", is actually the next level for the band, as they have recently released a mammoth of an album, including 16 tracks of pure carnage. Out September 5th by BDHW Records.
Short, snappy and straight to the point "Gotham" builds up a small introduction for "Onslaught", which closely follows, triggering all senses to tingle. A wake up song that is filled with all the chugging and piercing roars, it hits you instantly, gaining your attention for the rest of the album.
Who would have thought that Hardcore and Rap actually works? Well WARHOUND have remarkably reclaimed this new style as a natural occurrence, not even separating the two opposing genres, they come together as one, creating an almighty triumph of sounds. The imbalance flowing of lyrical content grant Vinal's tone to match in perfectly alongside a classic Hardcore beat.
As well as finding matching names for songs "Anger" certainly fits the boat, as it's firm coverage in slow beats, which then speed up to fast thrashing tempos, surely screams RAGE in my books. Similar themes are also found in "Abandon", crudely proven to consist of stomping rhythms that give you cold, evil chills on the back of your neck.
The second half of the record is unquestionably concrete, as a constant flow of bloodshed and chaos outbreak; suck you in, dissolving all of your current surroundings.
Crafting a distinguished sound, the band show great love for their heritage and hometown, as well as true static tempos of Hardcore, which help mold the album as an outstanding piece. "Next Level" seems to be full of breakdown heavens, as the perpetual brutally of it all crafts the Chicago five-some to withhold their solid reputation. You've got to give them credit for even attempting such an aspiring album without it seeming like a complete joke, something a lot of bands fail to do, take HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD, for example.
