Wardress - Metal 'Til The End album cover

Wardress originally formed in Germany in 1983 and broke up in 1986. They have been dedicated to 80's NWOBHM ever since, but failed to cement their status with an album release in their early years. It took a quasi-re-formation in 2018 when guitarist "Alex Gor " found some rehearsal room recordings and decided to contact original vocalist "Erich Eysn". The two decided to finally put some original song material from the band's early days on record. Their debut album, "Dress For War" was released in 2019 with a combination of old songs as well as current material. Their second album, "Metal 'Til The End" remains true to their roots and seems to breathe, sweat and bleed, heavy metal in its purist form, original and timeless.

"Berserk" starts the album with a thrashy, almost punk sound. There are solid dueling guitar solos mid-song. "Metal Till The End" has a more melodic power metal sound with an anthemic theme, with a strong rhythm section. "Motorlust" is the longest song on the album. It starts with some power chords, moves into a chugging riff in a song all about a man and his love for his car. "Mr. Crowley" is a cover of the "Blizzard of Ozz" song with what sounds like the bass playing along with the keyboard in the intro. The rest of the song follows the original closely, with the exception of a shout out to "Ozzy" himself, including the "Randy Rhoads" guitar solos which are split between both guitarists.

"Wardress" is the title song of the band. This is one of two songs on the album that were also on their first album. Another fast song with catch riffs, lots of power chords and strong guitar solos. "Serpent Kiss" starts with melodic guitar which continues throughout the song. The song theme is a warning of impending doom. "Serves You Right" is another anthemic song with galloping guitars, strong vocals and traditional metal solos. "Metal Melodies" is another song that was also on their first album. Another faster song that sums up their musical philosophy, proclaiming that metal is here to stay, and even including a clapping audience at the end.

"Wardress" claims that "Metal 'Til The End" contains sawing riffs, surprising breaks, anthemic melodies, and exploding solos. They deliver on their claims. They are dedicated to 80's NWOBHM, which may have inspired them in their first incarnation. This album pays homage to the early 80's heavy metal heroes, their fellow countrymen "Accept" (the album cover is very similar to a classic LP), and "Blizzard of Ozz", which they covered on the album. If you enjoy that era in heavy metal, give "Metal 'Til The End" a spin.
