Downfall
Warchest
On the attack, from top to bottom, a coordinated assault against everything that is foul of their surrounding society that like many others in the region reeks of corruption and violence. It is their way to stand to what they believe in, and that is truth while willing to spit it out right in the face. This is their hell. WARCHEST aren't that new in the public eye, I bet not in Chile, South America where they were founded and reside. "Downfall" coming out as their sophomore release, after smashing pound for pound with the debut just a few years back. In Thrash Metal they believe and through Thrash Metal they shall destroy and absorb support.
It is not a secret that old school Bay Area Thrash Metal is a shared quality in the band's music, whereas also implementing virtues of Modern Thrash in the image of MACHINE HEAD for instance, something in the areas of the latter's debut and second albums. WARCHEST's outbreaks weren't meant to be stopped, not even for a moment. These guys are throwing everything they have, cutting edge knives straight to their target without even flinching. WARCHEST made sure to speed up the process, energetically grooving and decimating with a line of crushing simplistic riffs that sound so bombastic due to the album's thick layered sound. Here and there you would find slashing solo efforts that might rattle your memory lane of old SEPULTURA. The end result my friends is a total moshpit meltdown, a pleasure to share one's blood in the pit to these sounds. Nevertheless, this is where it ends.
One of my main issues with "Downfall" starts with the fact that nearly every song, in its own way, sounds pretty much like its former. Without glancing towards my computer's player as it was working, I found myself on the third song deprived of known that the other two ended. Sure that it might be a good thing, but I completely forgot what I was listening to, everything was a single stream. It is not easy to relate to this album as mere moshpit pleaser, but eventually it functions mostly as just that. Even so, WARCHEST was able to come out with a few winners out of this affliction. "Fake Disciple" that is no less that a South American version of EXODUS full of attitude, even catchy to some extent. "Insurrection" is rupturing speed, a cry for violence for rebellion, "My Hell" that splattered limbs with its titanic intro only to ready itself for a full blown assault.
"Downfall" is the means to break your bones; it is harsh, fierce and direct. It has a clear message and it thrashes as if there is no tomorrow. On the other hand, it felt way too single dimensional in its songwriting, a factor that could be improved in the next releases.
