Walking Dead On Broadway - Dead Era album cover

There's plenty of hate and unnecessary negative feelings in the world that I fail to understand, and will probably continue to for most of my life. One - and possibly the biggest - exception to this is the general dislike of Deathcore outside its community. When I say the only actually good deathcore band I ever heard was The RED CHORD (and even they have some mathy grind shenanigans thrown in the mix), and maaaaaybe Impending Doom, I'm not exaggerating.

I find it baffling how most bands manage to sound so similar and generic, yet they still manage to have a fan base and recording contract. Another thing is what goes inside of their heads after they finish a record, don't they think „Wow, that sounds awfully similar to the other thousand Deathcore bands out there"? Perhaps not, but why am I ranting about this? Because - to the utmost horror of my hearing senses - this is how I would describe 70% of "Dead Era" by WALKING DEAD ON BROADWAY.

I like intro tracks, they're kind of my thing you could say, and even among the ones I like, the title track of this LP is definitely one of the best ones I heard, it perfectly represents what an ideal Deathcore sound conveys, an emotional and beautiful sound mixed with the fucking apocalypse of the universe. The second track, "Red Alert" further develops this theme, in a pretty good way, although I think that's mostly due to it being the very beginning of the album.

As for other tracks, most of them are generic chugging and incomprehensible screaming, with the shittiest production possible. Of course, there are some highlights, like incorporating some stringed instruments in "Song of Courage" or the phenomenal acoustic-symphonic "Standstill", the best song on the album, which proves they're competent musicians, so it's just more sad overall that the record mostly became a typical generic Deathcore LP.
