WakeUpCall
The young Italian band, by the name of WAKEUPCALL, conjured the fine powers of Hard Rock, Pop-Rock and Rock N' Roll, both modern and old school, in order to create their first official musical output to the world. With similarities to famous acts, both new and old, as BON JOVI, NICKELBACK, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE and old era of WINGER, these guys formed a template with five catchy tracks that will make this listening experience to run smooth and fast.
Furthermore, the "Wakeupcall" EP introduced a well done wall of sound made partially by Beau Hill, the producer who worked with WARRANT, EUROPE, ALICE COOPER, and various of other big names. On some other tracks, it was the work of producer Maurizio Baggio.
In overall, this release can be considered as another fine turnout of Hard Rock by a pack of youngsters that aimed their material, at first at least, to be just for fun. However, that situation changed. It can be assumed because of the notion that the guys found out that they got the talent to upgrade their status from "just for fun" to "a lot more serious". From my end, the basis of their talent lies with their vocalist, which with his rather boyish voice pattern, made the entire crew sound better. However, even with their shared talents to make great Hard Rock music, and without a doubt that this EP is good, I didn't find that anything special here, and not only on the material but on the style of playing that kind of music.
The band's top effort, "Before I Fall", did its part with great music and easy and catchy lyrics. Alongside this hit there was "Revolution", the opening tune, which also did almost the same as the former. However, the other presented tracks were in a way in the kind of "same ole same ole".
Let's just say that for a first release, whether an EP or a demo, I think that this group can be proud of what they did. "Wakeupcall", as I perceive it, is a sort of mixed tribute to what these guys admire and a first showcase to present how these guy perform. My hope is that they will try to create something more of their own on their full-length.
