Tartarus
W.E.B.

Based out of historical Athens, Greece hails W.E.B., a dark, black symphonic metal band who can be categorized with bands like DIMMU BORGIR, SEPTIC FLESH, ROTTING CHRIST, and BEHEMOTH. They have released their fourth album on November 10th 2017 "Tartarus" and it is a beast to be reckoned with. "Tartarus" opens with an extremely powerful, invoking instrumental, "Where Everything Begun." The use of dark orchestra is greatly executed here and I am already hooked on this. It gives me the DIMMU BORGIR/CRADLE OF FILTH, maybe even a little Game of Thrones vibe. It is an absolutely beautiful piece of work to kick off this new album.
Moving on to the next track, "Tartarus" begins with a foreboding, pounding drum line accentuated by eerie symphonics. It sounds great, and it will get your adrenaline going, like the kind of adrenaline when something bad is going to happen! It makes you a little clammy. You can definitely hear the BEHEMOTH and SEPTIC FLESH influence in this track. And I am not complaining.
"Dragona" is a powerhouse track. It is heavy with perfectly timed symphonics and boastful horns. That slow chorus will give you chills! It is what W.E.B does best. After "Dragona" enters "I, The Bornless" a complete contrast from "Dragona." It is extremely contrasting because it is constantly switching tempos in unexpected moments. It is a highly dramatic track which also makes it insanely good. Don't forget this beast of a track, "Morphine For Saints," which features amazing drum lines and riffs.
The album really reaches it pivotal moment with "Thanatos Part One-Golgotha" which features special guest, Sotiris Vayenas of SEPTIC FLESH along with "Thanatos Part Two-Epitaphios" and "Thanatos Part Three-Mnemosynon." Overall, I feel like this is W.E.B.'s best album yet! The sound is consistent, intriguing, captivating and a definitely improvement from their previous album, "For Bidens." I have highly enjoyed this epic album from start to finish without any major criticisms. Well done! I look forward to hearing more.
