VOIDHANGER was formed in 2010 by Zyklon, Warcrimer and Priest to "spread negativity and satanic madness through infernal mixture of thrash, black and death metal. In 2011, the band finished its debut album entitled "Wrathprayers" out on Witching Hour Productions. Expect nothing but total unholy devastation!!!" "Dark Days of the Soul" is their newest offering, and contains eight new tracks, from Agonia Records.

The title track leads off the album, in a fury of guitar, bass, drums and Death vocals. The pacing if the song would suggest Thrash, but there are Death and Black Metal elements present as well. Musicianship is strong, as Zyklon runs through some riff variations adeptly. The entire track does indeed have a very dark sound. "Death Wish" is shorter, and opens with some guitar feedback. If the intention of the track is total annihilation, they have accomplished this feat. The hastened speed of the track and vocal rhythms might even suggest some Punk/Crossover influence.

"Naprzód Donikąd!" is sung in their native Polish language. It gives the song some character and allows Warcrimer's vocals to really dig deep into the emotions of anger and hate. The plethora of riff offerings reminds me of early MEGADETH. It segues into "High on Hate," which is a blistering three minutes of rage fueled aggression. Some guitar harmonies rear their head here, pushing if only for moments a bit of the Melodic Death Metal sound. "Man of Dark Secrets" is another riff driven track that forces the listener to head-bang along with. The guitar work is really quite strong on the album, keeping what could be a very linear sound varied and interesting. "The Void is Where the Heart is" is a punishing four minutes of bruising riffs and mosh-pit fueled vocal rage. There is a slower passage that allows the darkness to really descend and threaten to cover the world in blackness.

"War is Certain, Peace is Not" is a common social commentary in Metal. The song does a good job painting this scenario in its heavy and fast moving method. The slower breakdown brings visuals of boots on the ground marching, and war is inevitable. "Hailing the Devil in Me" is the closing track. It opens with a slow, menacing grind, and the vocal laments speak of embracing that darker side of ourselves that if often hidden to the public. Overall, I found the album to be very much in line with the description of the band's music. Aggressive, heavy and sullen at times, it connects well with your primal needs.
