Void Rot - Telluric Dismemberment album cover

There's some kind of 'need' in these days to look for the past, and to do things as they were done back in some specific period of time. There's nothing wrong with that if the band is trying to do something different, far from what's already done, and these words mean: you must have personality, after all. And the North American quartet VOID ROT follows a traditional tendency, as shown on "Telluric Dismemberment".

It's a form of classic Death Metal from the beginning of the 90's, but filled with many influences from Doom Death Metal of those days (what means the prevalence of slow tempos). So the music will sound as names like BOLT THROWER, AMORPHIS on its Death Metal days (it's not a mere coincidence that this EP has a version of "Black Embrace", coming from the Finnish band's first album, "The Karelian Isthmus"), and others. Of course, the quartet still has to work in a better shape (in other words, needs to evolve a bit more), but they're on the right path, with a musical work that has appeal for Old School Death Metal fans. The production worked in a form to bring this EP a rough and raw sound, an abrasive sonority that resembles a lot the early years of Death Metal Second Wave of the 90's. But it's not hard to understand what the band is up to with it. It means that Adam Tucker (recording, mixing, and mastering) did a good job that fits on what the band wants to express.

On the song "Telluric Dismemberment", one can check a traditional Death Metal song with different rhythms into the natural trend of the classic approach of the genre, with a good technical work on the guitars, and grunted vocals that sounds like coming from the depths of a humid cave (and pay attention to the good arrangements on bass guitar and drums). On "Black Embrace" (as said above, an old AMORPHIS song), the band honors the original version, but trying to express their own personality on it (and what good work on the guitars). These ones are presented on vinyl version of the EP, but if one wants a CD copy or a digital one, there are three live shots from exclusive CVLT Nation show, songs from their album "Descending Pillars", and they are: the title track, "Liminal Forms", and "Inversion", all with a good sonority.

After all, VOID ROT needs to work a bit more to shape their musical efforts. But for now, "Telluric Dismemberment" is a very good release for Death Metal addicted fans.
