And Sweden does it again! I tell you must be the air or something in the water, but is unbelievable the amount of talent that comes off their lands. Following in CANDLEMASS' footsteps VOID MOON is a Doom Metal band formed in 2009 by bassist Peter Svensson and vocalist/guitarist Jonas Gustavsson and drummer Thomas Hedlund. Having released two demos and one EP, "On the Blackest of Nights" is their debut album.
The name VOID MOON and the Van Gogh-esque album cover conjure images of dark misty nights and of the desolate emptiness, and it is in this type of atmosphere that the album is set. The strong presence of the bass, which reminded me a lot of BLACK SABBATH, helps create a somber tone, the guitars give a melody to that darkness and Gustavsson helps integrate this atmosphere with his tortured vocals that help convey the pain of existence.
What to say of this album? It is fucking awesome! The more I listen, the more I get into it. VOID MOON is a band that makes justice to their Swedish heritage and it is a great addition to the annals of Doom Metal history.
