VITAM AETERNAM is an international project that has its roots in USA, Mexico and Norway. The idea of the project is to create dark experimental music, which they did very well. They have recently released their newest album "The Self-Aware Frequency" throughout Crime Records and that is what we are going to talk about.
The opening track from the album is the instrumental "Born" that will definitely set the listener in the right mood to listen to this album. "Coward" starts with a very sad but beautiful piano and it goes to something a little bit more electronic mixing male and female vocals and choirs - which helped creating this tense atmosphere that something will make you scared. That is different.
"Becoming' is an instrumental song that starts with a beautiful piano and orchestra, that is soon joined by great choirs. "Human" is a song that will set you to an introspect mood for a few minutes, but then it will hit you in the face with an electronic music and some inspiring and dark vocals. There are also some different recordings, where the vocals sounds like if it was sang by a radio mix - what a different band.
"Arising" starts with a beautiful orchestral sound that could definitely be in a Tim Burton's movie or any other genius of Hollywood. "Death" is the song with ex- DIMMU BORGIR member on the piano and it is a beautiful song, with nice piano and violins that are going to make you feel... introspective, in a good way.
"God Machine" starts with a different ambiance, with more modern sound coming from the keyboards and it is soon joined by dark and low choirs and some alien whispers. What a different song, I don't even know what to say about it... There are a lot of different dynamics, a great variety of melodies and ambiances as well, it mixes classical music, dark experimental, metal and electronic, but they sound awesome and tied to one and another. "Transcending" is the song with LOTTI WOOD and it's a very beautiful a instrumental song with soft piano and choirs.
"Viral Idea" starts very dark and creepy, with a weird voice and some nice guitar noises that will definitely remind you of an UFO movie. Once again they mixed different styles to one song and sounded incredible, but I must say that the vocals here are kind of creepy.
VITAM AETERNAM is probably one of the most different bands that I ever had the pleasure to listen to. They sound completely different from all the other bands around, mixing with great quality Metal, Darkwave, Classical Music and Electronic. They are very creative and what they do is inspiring. Give them the prize.
