Somebody once told me that he and his band have been playing to have fun. I can't say that I disagreed with him because part of this music, in any kind of musical genre, is to have fun playing it. Metal music has always been kind of serious, yet it has its humoristic escapes. The Italian comical musicians of VIOLENT SHIT have been having fun for several years now, Thrashing their surroundings but laughing all about it in the process. Presented with an artwork which only the older generation would recognized from old horror videos, VIOLENT SHIT released "Monsters Of Scorched Hell", another mouthful of Thrash Metal meets the crossover bounds of Punk and a bit of 80's Hardcore, delivered with a heavy load of giggles, some I believe only they would understand.

Following the same paths as other humoristic prankster such as GAMA BOMB and DR. LIVING DEAD!, the Italians went a bit far with trying to make it rawer than the rather polished creations of the former bands. The entire setting sounds like a homemade production, old school in its quality that adds a driving force to the material, but in general nothing that would sound more than plain for fun. Furthermore, some of the songs on the great setlist are in Italian, and invited the participation of the several vocalists that made an appearance. None of those are any known musicians in the Metal scene but each on his / her added a different dimension as a surplus flavor.

Musically, the larger part of the release is simplistic Thrash / Speed Metal and Punk oriented riffery, fast pacing wildly. However, there are also several surprises of 8-bit leads, funky bass deliveries along with even British Metal spirited melodies. VIOLENT SHIT might be kidding around, but some of their songs are true to form such "We're Back!", that attributed to its memorable features, "Ballad for a Droid" that was a clear surprise and made in quality and "Green Lizard Ninja" that even if sounded ridiculous in its lyrics, actually sounded like a classic Power Metal song of the previous decade with rather neat singing.

Some of the songs sounded really senseless, even beyond the comedy, and served more as fillers than tunes with a potential even for this kind of crossover maneuver. One of these songs appeared solely with a high pitched voice that was hideous and just undistinguishable. But at the end of the day, "Monsters Of Scorched Hell" is a fun album, decently made. I sure hope that the next release will be produced much more professionally.
