The View From My Ivory Tower

Underground Death Metal band, VILLAINY, have been on the scene for a few years now, and frankly, although I had never heard of them before, I have full intentions of listening to more. The band has a DEATH style of Death Metal, mainly in the vocals; Reiner Vracken brought to mind the way that Chuck Schuldiner did his vocals, very in your face, with raw power and grittiness.
It's not the easiest to talk about these small EP releases, by small, I mean there's only two songs, without just making it a track by track review. I'll talk about the title track, let you wonder about the other song, and if you like what you hear, then I suggest you look it up, because its worth it. "The View From My Ivory Tower" is very raw in the way it sounds, its not over produced or anything, it's a "symbolic" style of Death Metal. I hate to keep going back to DEATH, but that's really who this reminds me of. The song is slow, until about half way through then it really speed up, with the riff getting faster, heavier and all around better and a great solo. This is actually one of my all time favourite riffs, you gotta hear it its awesome I wish I could spell out the noise because man, it's cool and catchy and fun, but heavy.
I hope this sort of gives you an idea of this release. "The View From My Ivory Tower" is a great EP and the only thing that can suck about it is the fact that it passes so quickly only being two songs! Check out the teaser below, judge for yourself and decide if you should check out more.<
