VICTORIAN is a Symphonic Metal Indonesia formed in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia on January 2008. The band was formed under the idea of a companionship and due to each member's understanding in Classical Music and Metal.
As someone from Southeast Asia, I am so happy I get to review an EP from someone from a neighbouring country. There is a pretty strong Metal scene here just that not many get to be heard and loved out of this region.
I am a huge fan of female vocalists in Metal and Eful sounds pretty good when she sings. It can be pretty soulful with quite a good storytelling ability to boot. On songs such as "The Journey", it had a very strong MY BRIGHTEST DIAMOND feel. The band was focusing very heavily on atmosphere rather than heaviness and it pays off, the track is easily the most interesting of the three tracks. It includes an interesting duet between Eful and Ipank. The band got me when the piano came in at the mid-point. It would have definitely been better if they have people playing the instruments rather than using keyboard as some sounds such as the violin sounds rather artificial.
Ade Black Wizard's input in the song "Believe in Destiny" is simply horrendous. He has a terrible vocal quality. The growls are weak, it lacks concentration and that is a general slur around it which just makes it a pain to listen to after a short while.
Why do people like Classical Music? I personally love Classical Music, the lushness of the music, the insane adrenaline you can get from the crescendo and how poetic Sonatas can be. A lot of people associate Classical Music with boring old people sitting in theatres pretending they like the music, but it is definitely far from the case. I applaud bands from different genres like ROBYN who infuses Classical Music into their genre.
VICTORIAN attempted the same; sadly, they lack the right equipment or people.
