People think that this tendency to use old ways from Metal and Rock is some trend that came up just a few years ago. To be exact, it's not the truth, because since the coming of Grunge Rock/Alternative Rock in the early years of the 90's (Grunge Rock recovered a lot of the lysergic/psychedelic elements from the 60's and 70's), but some improvements and the use of deeper elements of the past came on the past 10-15 years. So to hear a band as the Swedish trio VELVET INSANE isn't something unexpected. But "Rock 'N' Roll Glitter Suit" is really a good release.

The band uses something that is near the works from Glitter/Glam Rock from the 70's, with inspirations taken from names as T-REX, SLADE and David Bowie, some touches from Folk Rock, and even some elements of Blues Rock similar to those found on CINDERELLA's "Long Cold Winter" can be heard (especially due to the use of pianos parts). It's melodic and accessible, but with a charming set of catchy melodies and a tender appeal. Obviously, it's nothing that can be said as new, but's truly good. The sonority of the album was conceived in a way that the old elements of the past can contrast tenderly with the modern definition and clarity. So it works in a very good way, open the possibility to the band be understood and can reach a broader set of the fans (maybe even your grandma can like their work).

Their eleven songs are easy to be understood and liked by fans of Rock 'n' Roll, Hard Rock and even Metal fans. Its appeal is really hard to resist, as can be heard on the savage and wild Rock called "Driving Down the Mountain" (very good piano and vocals are presented on this song), the bittersweet aggressiveness that tempers "Backstreet Liberace" and "Velvet Tongue" (this last one shows a very melodic appeal, with charming guitars and pianos), the hypnotic melodies shown on "Sound of Sirens" (this introspective expression is really amazing), the Bluesy Rock "Spin on Crazy Moon" with its solid work on bass guitar and drums (along with very good keyboards parts), and the tender and sweet Folk Rock influences shown on "You're the Revolution". These are the best, but the entire album is truly good.

Once more: VELVET INSANE isn't offering anything that wasn't done before. But "Rock 'N' Roll Glitter Suit" shows its values and merits, so listen to it and enjoy the experience!
