Outer Isolation

Arizona-based Thrashers, but with an off-kilter streak, that includes opening with a 10+ minute "Cosmic Cortex". What would you expect from an outfit whose promo shot features members in VOIVOD and WATCHTOWER t-shirts! Although a trio of these seven tracks were previous available (albeit on the rare '06 "Demolition" demo), their sophomore effort is still unlike most of the so-called Thrash making the rounds. Speed Metal with gruff / sinister Black Metal vocals, certainly not a retread of the Eighties, as so many are aiming towards.
Exciting! Riff-riot on "Echoless Chamber" and to start "Tetrastructural Minds", which out of nowhere, switches to a subtle, Prog-jazz section (think CYNIC / ATHEIST), before ending much as it began. Flirting with atonality, "Venus Project" contains an even greater dose of subtlety, offset with intensity. Amazing hammer on sequence in "Dark Creatures, Dead Creators", while the squeal kicking off "Fast Paced Society" is vintage Schmier (DESTRUCTION). It ends in a wash of atonality that seamlessly segues into the mind-bending closer of a title cut. Color me impressed!
