It's time. It's time to get very, very, almost unrealistically petty. You know why? Because I feel like it.

VEIL OF MAYA maintains a façade of Death Metal, but beneath that they try to slip some Metalcore passed you like a roofied Martini. Thought you could get away with that? Ha, not a chance. Experience has brought me an extraordinary resistance to Rufilin, and I think I earned it.

What am I talking about? Well, for one thing, this band loves to do that thing with doubled-over vocals consisting of a really deep growl and a high-pitched shriek. I guess it's supposed to be badass, but in my opinion it sounds like Cookie Monster and a possessed Geddy Lee are yelling at their waitress because the gazpacho is cold. By that, I mean I don't like it.

The music itself isn't too bad. They've some well-crafted riffs and leads. But they also like to throw in an unnecessary keyboard, and what I think was a fucking sample of somebody's wind chimes. Really? Wind chimes? Yes, they must really be badass if they have the testicular fortitude to break out someone's patio decorations. Couple that with the fact that it seems like the vocalist just does not know when to shut the fuck up. It goes for the modern style of Metal music - which is just a nice way of saying it's a shit-wall of sound.

I'm cutting this review short. I really have nothing to say about this band I haven't said about other bands with an almost identical sound. Whatever quality music that is to be found is covered beneath a veil of turds.
