URBAN PRIMATE's "Desolation" is a blast from the past serving up the 90s and early 2000s grunge and hard rock tones from Denmark.

"Desolate" is a real tease as it turns out it's just a one-minute intro song, which I didn't realize until the anticlimactic ending, however, it transitions nicely into the first full-length song "Won't Follow." The song starts off quite heavy and it's clear from the start that vocalist Benjamin Askholm Larsen has that nostalgic 90s, early 2000s rock voice. The chorus and the main riff are really catchy, as well.

"Lesson" is like a classic 90s, early 2000s heavy rock hit. This song really starts off strong and there are some really mean riffs in it. It reminds me of when I was young again listening to rock music and getting into bands like EARSHOT, COLD, SEETHER, THREE DAYS GRACE, and other hard rock and post-grunge bands of that era.

I was pleasantly surprised with the heaviness of the music and Larsen has a pretty good voice. I definitely can appreciate the nostalgic feeling I get from URBAN PRIMATE's music. However, as I was six songs in, I realized a lot of it was sounding about the same and I was waiting for something to really stand out to me. That wish doesn't ever really come true.

One thing kind of different happens by the time song eight "Walk Away" comes around. And that's with the distorted effect on Larsen's vocals, but that's the only new thing they seem to have tried so far. I thought the way Larsen delivers his vocals in "Let Go" was a bit refreshing. He does some yelling that's almost hardcore in nature and does a pretty mean scream with some nasty rifts behind it for the chorus. I think this might be my favorite song on the album.

The band chooses to do a slow, sad song for their second to last on the album with "Home." It's just over one and a half minutes long and is the only song on the album that isn't heavy. I really like how they used the singing of the word home to transition into the last song "Left Open."

If you're looking for a radio rock style band that will remind you of the post-grunge era, but is something a little newer, this is the band for you.
