UNPROCESSED is a German Metal band from Wiesbaden, Hessen, and was founded in 2013. The band was formed by guitarist Manuel Gardner Fernandes and former drummer Jan Aimene in 2012 together with the earlier bassist, singer and second guitarist. After a few line-up changes, the current members decided on sticking to a highly diversifying sound, which can be described as a technically sophisticated modern style of Progressive Metal. “...And Everything In Between” is their fifth full length album to date, if my information is correct, and was released in late 2023. I can't seem to find the exact date.

And again I have to admit that I had never heard of these guys before I received “...And Everything In Between”. So, I’m going into this one UNPROCESSED. After listening to the album for more than 10 times I have to stop saying one thing: that Metalcore isn’t my thing. The reason being is I really like what I am hearing. As is see it, when they say they play technically sophisticated modern style of Progressive Metal, they should switch the last word for Metalcore. Then all of a sudden it all starts to make sense.

Oh, for those who are expecting a guitar based Progressive record, I hate to disappoint you. Here the bassist David John Levy is the absolute star of the show, closely followed by drummer Leon Pfeifer and vocalist Manuel Gardner Fernandes. The guitars and keyboards are there too, and they do make music complete, but they are merely there to complete the picture. “...And Everything In Between” is a very freaky record, where all the emotions are rampant at all times. I especially love the way that UNPROCESSED switches from very mellow to extremely explosive and everything in between in “Abysm”.

I know that this isn’t the kind of music for a traditional Heavy Metal enthusiast or Melodic Rock lover. Hell, even a lot of Progressive Music afficionado’s won’t be able to get this. But somehow, I do. I like the range of emotions, packed into songs that make me want to listen to them time and time again. Yes, even the blastbeats and the freaky bass lines gel together beautifully for me. Don’t ask me how my brain is making sense of this, as I haven’t got the faintest clue. I just know that I love “...And Everything In Between” to bits and am more than ready to try and explore what more UNPROCESSED can offer me musically. I suspect that I am in for a wild ride.
